Thank You for a Spectacular 2008 WaterFire Season!!

Thank you for visiting the WaterFire website and for your interest in WaterFire.  While the official 2008 WaterFire season schedule has come to a close, there are still plenty of ways to participate in WaterFire and Keep the Fires Burning as we plan for our 2009 season!

WaterFire Providence is a non-profit arts organization and is funded by contributions from corporations, governmental bodies, and private individuals. WaterFire is very grateful to all of our sponsors. However, we need your help as well. Sponsors cover only one-third of the costs of producing WaterFire. While we do not charge a formal admission charge we need your donations to continue to produce this event. All contributions to WaterFire are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

There are many ways you may contribute to WaterFire Providence and keep the fires buring. We greatly appreciate all your support.

BECOME A VOLUNTEER!!

Another amazing way to be a part of WaterFire is to join the legions of volunteers who make the event possible!

Visit the WaterFire Volunteer Website to register today!

WaterFire may only be a seasonal production, but to make it happen, we have year-round activities helping us to prepare and repair everything, from paperwork to boat motors…

WaterFire volunteers are an essential part of WaterFire. They assist in all aspects of the event, from "running the show" to special projects on non-event days. We have everything from construction, to fire tending, merchandise sales, computer support, street performers, stage managers, flower arranging, reception hosting, boat captains, and even "undercover" activities!

At any one WaterFire, we can use well over 100 volunteers in scores of different and interesting projects from start to finish. Volunteers prepare the river and park for the evening’s event, set up receptions, and even help construct stages. Come nightfall, dressed in all black, the volunteers create an unobtrusive and ceremonial communal presence, and actually create WaterFire. We dress in black to be a part of the night, but do not wear masks so that we can celebrate the individuals who come together to build community through firelight.

The volunteers who are working as fire tenders are not behind the scenes, but rather, you are actually performers and are an integral part of the WaterFire sculpture. Volunteers are a significant part of WaterFire’s symbolic message. You represent "everyman", the traditional Greek Chorus and our communal spirit. You are the ones out on the river weaving the magic tending the fires during the night, and on shore welcoming visitors from far and wide. If you find that you prefer to be less visible or behind the scenes, you can help us on land, assisting with our VIP receptions, helping to manage performance stages, working at a Luminaria station, and more.

Even between lightings there are fun activities for volunteers. Things like potluck dinners, parties, and other interesting events or projects go on throughout the year. On the off-season volunteers help with boat building and repairs, mechanical tasks, fundraising, preparations for the next season, and the occasional special project like sewing or online research. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, and we appreciate the diversity and talents that are among them. Over the years, a network of volunteers has been established, and we are delighted at the community that they have become.

Now is the perfect time to join us and discover just how much excitement and fun there is producing such a unique and exciting event.  Whether you’re a “behind the scenes” kind of person, or want to shine in a larger role, or you simply want to experience WaterFire from a new perspective, please sign up as a new volunteer.

We will get back to you by email and let you know about any upcoming events. We all look forward to meeting you soon!

Thank you for your interest in WaterFire!!
